Katiebug

On Saturday, my heart expanded and added my third daughter. It was an unexpected C-section due to some little one flipping and becoming breech at the last minute (little stinker). Things didn't exactly go the way we anticipated, but in the end, it was all perfect. Katherine Sarah joined us at 8:34am on 1/23/10 weighing 8 lbs 4 oz and 21 inches long.

She is the snuggliest, sweetest newborn. She cries when hungry or having a diaper change. Her looks are a perfect combination of her two sisters. She has the characteristic Scott girl nose, tons of hair, and long skinny toes.

We are in love.

Big sister is adjusting well. She loves Katie and wants to be close to her. Of course, she struggles with wanting me to do something and not liking that I can't because I am stuck nursing and unable to get up. I've made sure to give her extra loving and one on one time each day. We've had special story time just the two of us, time to color and play, and sweet snuggle time to help her with adjusting. Maggie is a wonderful big sister. She hated me being in the hospital and did not like leaving me there at nights, but has done so much better since I got home.

If you haven't already seen them, please visit Jen's blog at www.sugar-photography.com/blog and see the blog post "Sisters." Make sure you have your Kleenex ready! Seeing the moment Maggie and Katie will meet will melt your heart.

I'm off to snuggle my girl before big sister gets back from school.

Congratulations on your beautiful family. The photos are just amazing. I, too, have followed your story since Allie and am so happy to see you welcome your 3rd daughter.
Also, regarding the pain you're mentioning on Twitter, I've BTDT and want to say how sorry I am- I know firsthand that it is the worst physical pain imaginable. I hope you feel relief soon!

Looking at the date on the scrubs slapped me in the face in a strange way. Maggie was born in 2005...wow...can it really have that long ago that we were reading about bili lights????

Congratulations!

I am a bit jealous. I was due the same day as you were. I still don't have a baby in my arms.

Jenny,

It's been a while since I've checked in on the Scott family. I followed your blog closely with Allie as I have an '03er as well. Maggie has grown into such a beautiful little girl and this new addition of yours, little Katie, is just beautiful. When I looked at the photos on Sugar Photography I could imagine Allie holding Maggie just as Maggie is hugging Katie. You have three beautiful girls. Congratulations on the new addition and welcome to the world, Katie!

Congratulations! So glad you took the dive and had another one. You mentioned stopping with Maggie.

Allie's story broke my heart, since she was only a bit older than my own baby. I just couldn't imagine the pain. My own sister survived leukemia just after my second baby. Bad enough with a sister. A child going through that is unthinkable...

Now you get to mother more than one at the same time. I'm happy for you. Allie is never forgotten and always be missed. You could have a dozen more children and she would not be replaced. But you suffered every mother's worst nightmare, better things were in store for you!

We still talk about my mom's and mother-in-law's older sisters. Our grandmothers talked about their loss decades later. Our mothers were not even born when the first borns died but while not living under a cloud of tragedy, they were always aware of what happened. My grandparents hung a framed picture of their first daughter's birth certificate and waited for my mom to ask. They were not able to have more children after my mom, who regretted being an only child.

Child loss was common in past times and thankfully, less so now. Your eloquence during your sad times made what happened more "real" to me, and gave me more insight to what my grandmother went through.

Actually, I do have a BTDT tip; get a sling. Mine are close in age so I was managing breastfeeding and potty training together-twice. With the sling, I could continue the feeding and not be "stuck" in one place.

Get a special book and read it only when you're breastfeeding (the sling will be a g-dsend later on but with a newborn, you may need to get the hang of it first). Sit down in the same place, only for feedings and Maggie will get into the routine. Make the time special for all three of you.

Motherhood has brought you both pain and joy. These beautiful girls are going to stick around so enjoy them for many years to come!
