May the Odds Be Ever In Your Favor

OHHH.EMMM.GEEE.  How did I wait this long to read the Hunger Games? I held out thinking it didn't interest me for the longest time.  Then, the book fair came to my school and my students were all buying it like crazy.  With the movie coming up, I thought I would give in and read it.  I'm HOOKED.  I started Mockingjay last night after finishing the first two.  I've even got MM reading it.  He passed it on to his oldest child and she's anxiously waiting for Dad to hurry up and finish Catching Fire so she can get it.

We go see the movie on Wednesday night for our next date night.  I can't wait!

Do you like the books?  Who do you like most--Peeta?  Katniss?  Gale?  Please--don't tell me anything about the movie until after Wednesday night!!

I just bought the trilogy last night... I haven't started them yet though. EVERYBODY I know raves about them though. I was/am convinced it doesn't interest me, but maybe I will be proved wrong?

The only thing I will say is that the characters in the movie are nothing like I pictured them while reading the books and the movie leaves out a lot of detail...you will actually be a little ticked off at some of the details the movie left out! )

Oooh - I'm right there with you! I jumped on the bandwagon a couple weeks ago...I am finished with book 1 and itching to start book 2! Have had NO TIME to go to the movie yet, and I can't wait to see it. Hope you have a great date night!! :) I wish I could convince my hubby to read it...heck, to read anything! LOL! When I explained to him about the book he just said it sounded barbaric and that my taste in books and movies is weird...hahaha! Well, if so, I'm definitely not alone in my taste. :)

I read all 3 books in less then a week!! I'm anxious to see the movie but will probably wait a couple of weeks to avoid the line ups. I really like the character of Katniss and I find that the author did a fantastic time of drawing the reader in so that you really feel like you are with her as she makes her decisions.

Can I ask how old MM's oldest daughter is??

I read all 3 books in 5 days. Was convinced that kids fighting to the death was not something I wanted to read, due to my cousin's murder. But I got it for Christmas from my son and decided to read it. It was NOT as bad as I thought it was going to be, and very much enjoyed it.

Now, as far as the movie goes, the books are ALWAYS better. They have to leave stuff out or it would be a 5 hr movie. Just dont go in expecting as much as you got out of the book and you will not be disappointed. I actually LOVED the movie because I always go in with that rational. My husband went with and he did NOT read the books and even he enjoyed it.

ENJOY !!

Looooved the books. I read them each as they were published, so I've been waiting a long time for this movie! I saw it with my 12 year old daughter who devoured all three in about two weeks. I wouldn't have given that first one to her, thinking it was too intense, but her middle school English teacher gave it to her and she was well into it before I found out. I was a little unhappy with her teacher because she's only in sixth grade, but I couldn't have pried it from her grip at that point! As far as the movie...like a pp said, even though it's so long they have to leave a lot out. My daughter was nit-picking the whole way through, but you just have to let it go and enjoy! As a mom of daughters, you are going to c-r-y at the reaping scene!

I read the books awhile back and loved them. I've read them several more times since then. I can't wait to see the movie. My husband and I are seeing it at IMAX tomorrow night. I can't wait!!! I loved Peeta and Katniss throughout the books. Also Finnick! I've heard that most people love the movie. I'm so excited to see it come to life on the big screen!

To the previous person that asked, My daughter is almost 10 yrs old, I try to keep her to age appropriate things, but I'm going to let her read it. I didn't find it extremely gory and she's not an uber sensitive child, so I think it will be fine. My husband saw the movie, I'm going in a couple of weeks with a friend. I'll probably let my daughter watch it when it comes out on DVD

I'm right there with you! I had these books for months before I decided to take a chance and read them. They are totally not the kind of books I enjoy reading, but I read them all in less than a week. I saw the movie yesterday and like others have said, there are parts left out, but I thought they did a great job following the book. My only complaint is that Lenny Kravitz (Cinna) didn't have more screen time. YUMMY!

I love the books. I heard so much buzz about them and almost bought them a few times but each time felt like the description was just too dark for me. Finally I gave in and was hooked! Its not something I would normally read but I got sucked in and loved them. I saw the movie on Saturday, I was not dissapointed. It felt a little rushed in parts, but overall I felt it was a good representation of the book. I also thought the casting was excellent, while the characters werent all what I pictured per se, they all seemed to work. My husband didnt read the books, and enjoyed the movie but had a lot of questions after about certain scenes and their significance. Come back and tell us what you think of the movie once you see it!

I, too, had the #1 on my shelf FOREVER before finally giving in and reading it. That said, I read all 3 books in less than 1 week, which is a new record for me. I LOVE THE HUNGER GAMES! I have not seen the movie....yet, but will soon. Enjoy!

I'm just reading it now as well....never heard of it until I went on vacation and saw everyone reading it on the beach, then came home and saw the previews for the movie! Loving it....just wizzing through the first one.

For all of you Hunger Games fans you need to check out The Maze Runner trilogy of books next. I was really missing the characters of the hunger games when I finished the books and I friend suggested I give the maze runner a try. It was so worth it. You won't be disappointed.

I read the first book and saw the midnight movie. The first book only took me a day-- I flew through it. I was more eager to get through it because of the movie and have the other two...just haven't had time to read them yet! I'm probably team Gale...there's something about the (cute!) underdog :)
