Super wrong for kids!

Andrew and I had a date tonight. We went to a movie and out to dinner while the Munchie went to "Ga-Ga's" house to play with my mom. Andrew has been wanting to see Superbad, so we dropped her off and headed to the theatre. Great movie. Absolutely hilarious. Think "Can't Hardly Wait" with the language and crassness of "40 Year Old Virgin."

But, it's rated R. With good reason too.

And yet, three minutes into the movie, we watched a family stroll in with their two kids--who both looked under 10. Seriously. The girl was closer to five.

I'm bothered by this. I really hate the de-sensitiving we have of our children that we have in our society. Those kids should have been home watching High School Musical 2, not sitting in a theatre watching some high school kids trying to get laid before graduation. Let's keep our children young and innocent. They learn fast enough. They know about sex and drugs too young as it is. Let's not expose them any earlier than necessary.

It took everything in my being not to say something as I walked out of the theatre with the family behind us. I wanted to loudly say to Andrew, "Get a babysitter or stay home!"

There's my soapbox for the evening.

God! I just can't believe some people! My kids have been to 2 movies - Curious George (my fave movie!) and Happy Feet... If it's not made FOR kids - they aren't going. This applies at home too... They can't watch movies or TV shows that aren't G rated unless we've seen them first and deem a PG to be OK. My kids mostly like cartoons or animated movies or Animal Planet anyways. Some people just put their own selfish wants above their childrens best interest. Yet when their kids act out in a manner that reflects what they have seen - they get punished and the parents wonder why they have "bad kids". *sigh*

Sad really.

AMEN!! People are stunned when I won't let my kids watch/do certain things. Let them enjoy CAREFREE lives - the stress of live will find them later....

Jenny, you are so right! I am often appalled seeing parents bring in their young children to totally inappropriate movies that the kids can't possible enjoy. Don't they realize the impact they are making on their young minds? I remember how terrified you were when we took you to see ET at age five. It made me feel really bad, and I had no idea that would frighten you. "Annie" was a much better choice, huh? LOL Anyway, "GaGa" was thrilled to spend some quality time with little Munchie. She ROCKS!
Love ya,
Mom

I totally agree. We saw kids under 8 at the Lord of the Rings movies! I could not believe it.

AMEN! I even had an issue (or rather my "poor teenage daughter" who is in high school) with my oldest daughter going - or rather not going - to see that movie. The really sad thing is the theater employees have no problems letting underage, unaccompanied minors into inappropriate movies. I rather like being the "overprotective" mom...we only get one chance, so we have to do it right the first time.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. From a parent who would not let her 7 1/2 yo son see Transformers or The Simpsons. Transformers was nearly rated R, just barely PG13... there was no way I was going to take my kid to that at his age. I see kids in "R" movies all the time.

We did take him to Harry Potter, though, so I guess my PG13 thing is very context-dependent!

LOVE the dreams. Cracks me up how everyone really WANTS you to have another baby! I think we're all just thinking that since you are a fabulous mom, of course you should have more. Which is ridiculous, of course, and no one's business but your own. Me? I've been dreaming of Anthony Bourdain and George Clooney a lot lately, and if either of them would like to practice that babymaking routine, well...

ROTFLMAO!

(Good thing my hubby doesn't read the same blogs, right?)

Can you imagine the family at the ticket booth.

"Um, yeah, two adults and two kid tickets for for Superbad."

What are those people thinking? I took my 3 year old to see Ratatouille and was a little put off by some of the violence depicted in a *DISNEY* movie. I would never dream of taking my kid to a movie intended for adults. Sheesh.

Glad to see there are more parents like you and Andrew out there, Jenny. Seriously, the world is completely lacking in parents that give a damn these days.

Totally off point, but hoping you can tell me how you formatted your blog header. I have been working on something similar for a while and have had no luck with the blogger model. Any help would be great. Love your blog too. I have been a follower since Maggie was born. She is a beautiful girl!

What the heck is wrong with people? Kids have no business in R rated movies!

On a totally different note .. I came across this blog and the baby reminds me so of Allie! http://braydenboy.blogspot.com/

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Why can't kids just be kids withouth all the inappropriate sexual innennendos and what not in t.v./movies?

My nephew watches Family Guy.. and he's 8. I can appreciate where you are coming from!
