Freedom Fries

Andrew and I got to talking in the car this afternoon. You know, about our favorite french fries. Our top list of delicious fries:

  1. Wing Stop. Seriously. Our favorite. Have you tried this parmesan flavored, fresh cut, awesome things? No? Well, you're seriously missing out.
  2. Houston's. Add to the that a plate of their fork n' knife ribs and I am one extremely happy woman.
  3. McDonald's. Must be properly salted and fresh. Must be fresh. My favorite? The little crispy ones.
  4. Chick-Fil-A. Two words--waffle fries.

Now here's our problem. In making our top five list of french fries, we got stumped at number 5. Wendy's, Burger King, and Jack in the Box are not going to make the list. So, what's your favorite place for french fries? Enlighten me.

I'm with you on McDonald's... but Wendy's are great if you dip them in a chocolate Frosty! The Cheesecake Factory also (surprisingly) has phenomenal french fries!

McDonald's and Steak n' Shake are my favorites.

None of the above....definitely the fries at Fishmongers in Plano!
I ditto the Wingstop!

Oh girlfriend...oh, this list pains me. Chik Fil A? McDonald's? THESE are your favorite fries?

Oh sweetie. We need a fry intervention.

In your defense, I have been underwhelmed at the french fry situation since moving to Texas. Mexican? Texas knows its stuff. BBQ? C'mon now, Texas invented it. But french fries? They fall just below pizza, bagels, deli sandwiches and iced coffee as items that Texas just can't compare to my old stomping grounds.

Here is evidence - I just turned to Rich and asked him where he gets good french fries in Austin. He looked absolutely confounded. I then read him my reply so far and he nodded seriously and said "It's true."

So there you have it. Texas sucks at french fries.

Let the defensive Texas pride comments commence.

Susan--I LOVE Fishmongers!! Didn't think about them. Good catch!

Tracey, given that this is my main point of reference since I've lived in Texas so long now, I can't agree with you. Can't disagree either. But yes, Chick Fil-A--very valid. Love me some waffle fries. And have you tried the Wing Stop fries? I don't like their wings--only boneless for me thanks--but those fries? Can blow my diet every time!

I'd have to say Johnny's and Braum's
and since I'm in Oklahoma I doubt you have a clue what I'm talking about.

I LOVE the Crispy Fries at Texas Land And Cattle. They are very skinny and crunchy. Yumbo!

Totally with You on McDonalds dipped in some sweet and sour. I do love me some Red Robin (dipped in their honey mustard), but I have to say I love Wendy's fries.

Bar Fries are great! Could be the beers that lead up to them but they are usually from a good frier!

I love the curly fries from Arby's. They're my favorite french fry with McDonald's making a close second - but you're right. Freshness is key to loving the McDonald's fries. Truthfully, though, would you classify any unfresh french fry as a favorite? I don't think so :)

My #5 would be Long John Silvers Fries

Wing Stop does have awesome fries but how could you leave out Snuffers??? They are for sure on my top 5 list.

Well, we have two places that are local in SC - one in Columbia, and one in Charleston. The first is Rush's, and they are THE best fast food plae EVER!!!! Growing up it was the place everyone hung out after football games and such...awesome, awesome, awesome. And my hubby is from NC, but anytime we go see my parents or are just passing through, he always opts for Rush's as well. And their shakes...yum!!!
Second is a local bbq place in Charleston - Robert's BBQ...they not only have delicious bbq, but the best cheeseburgers around, and if you like onion rings, very yum...okay - I just ate lunch and already I'm getting hungry...hahaha! :) Fun post!

For nationwide I would say Steak n Shake fries with cheese are my favorite. But, since moving to Milwaukee I have developed a great appreciation for Saz's fries...they are great!!!
