Toddler Talk

Maggie: "Mama, I want the Other One Aggarella Moonie, OK?"

Did you get that? Any guess what the heck the kid is talking about

Why, that would be Cinderella 2, of course--"the other one Cinderella Movie!" Don't you love how they speak at this age? Of course, we are the only ones that understand things like this (I won't even attempt to spell out how she says Sleeping Beauty, but my mom thinks it sounds more like Mitisubishi!).

Love having a talking toddler with a growing vocabulary. Yesterday, I hugged Andrew and she yelled, "Get off of him, Mama, that's MY dada!" Nice!

Hey, do I get points for having figured that sentence out before reading the rest of your post? Of course, I wouldn't be able to distinguish Cinderella 1, 2 or 212 since I'm the mom of two boys and we watch Cars and Star Wars around here...but hey, I'm pretty fluent at toddler speak! :)

Just yesterday, my just-turned-2 year old son said to my husband "bah bye ed cah?" and without missing a beat my husband answered "yes, we'll be going bye-bye in the red car later on, but first you have to eat your breakfast." I couldn't help but laugh and point out to him that anyone other than the two of us probably would have been amazed that we could make any sense out of that sentence! :)

Maggie is such a cheeky little doll...I just love reading about her!

I figured it out immediately because I get the same request daily with only one exception. It is "moobie" in our house!

Even better than two year old talk is when they are five and try to pronounce really big words. Right now Wyatt is obsessed with the "new" movie they are going to be playing on Nickelodeon soon...he just can't wait to see ET-Extra Cholesterol. (We just don't have the heart to correct him and keep asking him what the name of that movie is?)

Lots of toddler talk in our house too. "Where's the ga?" means "where's the dog." We have four in our house, so I'm not sure how she could be missing one!

And instead of being a normal 2 year old and calling me Mommy, she calls me "the mum". I'll admit it does melt my heart when she comes running to me squealing "The mum, the mum, the mum!"

Oh the joys of toddlerhood!

Okay, I actually figured it out as well...I have a 3 and 4 year old at home, though, so I'm used to deciphering all sorts of toddlerese. With my daughter in speech, it gets really fun at times. Hahaha! And you can appreciate this one, with Maggie being a Wiggles fan. For the longest time my daughter referred to them as the Ba Ba's...why? Who knows. But she called them that for about 2 years...so to us they will always be the Ba Ba's. Now my son is in that phase...we're going on 4 years of Wiggle overload at our house. Ack!

Since my youngest is 13, my toddler-ese is a bit rusty and I had to read the translation. I still remember, though, when she first asked me to sing the "Fizzy Lizzy" song. I had to think long and hard before I realized she meant Gershwin's "Summertime" ("and the living is easy"--hence "fizzy lizzy.")

Haha, my baby is 1 so I have not experienced this yet. Sounds fun
