Lesson Learned

Sweet Maggie learned a valuable lesson today--when you smack your mama in the face at the Chick Fil-A (because mean mama wants you to go potty before playing), you DO NOT get to stay at play with your friends.

It's so hard to be two.

Those lessons are so hard to learn, but stick with it Mama! Don't go soft ;) These early lessons will pay off when they are bigger. I can't tell you how many times we've left places for bad behavior. Little stinkers. :)

Good job!! Too many parents lets their kids get away with that stuff then wonder why they're so badly behaved. Good job nipping that one right in the bud!!

Jenny -- I am a true lurker from way back to the BabyCenter days and I never post, but this one made me laugh out loud. I have a 2year old too and it just so hit home. We mommies are sooooo mean. My daughter's new favorite phrase when she's mad or frustrated is, "Go away Mommy!"

I also need to tell you that I read your post about Allie's birthday -- actually, I read it in the afternoon, after a long day of a Christmas party at my 4 year old's preschool and a Christmas play at my 5 year old's school -- dragging my 2 year old with me all the way. I was tired, cranky and sick of sheparding kids from one thing to the next. Then I read your post. My 4 year old turned 4 on 12/20 -- just a few days younger than Allie. I instantly let the aggravation go and remembered to be thankful for the immense gifts I've got. In short, Allie's magic way of making people take stock of the good things in life continues. I closed my computer and spent the afternoon playing with my girls. Thanks for the wake-up call.

Have a wonderful Christmas with your adorable little brute!!

Lucy says you are a "mean poopie mommy" on behalf of her BFF Maggie.

Welcome to the club - I am a mean poopie mommy quite often.

Awwww. Life is ROUGH when you're 2. Way to go Mama. I actually had a stranger compliment me once for "handling" my 2 year old. :)
It's worth it in the end.

We'll just hope Santa didn't see.... ;-)

Hi Jenny,
I always tell new moms that there are good and bad in every phase of little ones growing older.... welcome to that bad side... it is, however, essential to their learning the "rules". I know how tough it can be, but I promise it will be easier in the end and well worth the battle! You are a awesome mom, and I'm positive Maggie will need her momma once again in about an hour, she won't stay mad too long. :-) Merry Christmas to all of you! This will be such a fun age for you this year when opening presents! Create some new traditions with her to look forward to. In our house, its matching pajamas for Christmas eve, kids only :-)They get to help pick them out, own colors and all, and then with great anticipation waiting till Christmas eve to wear them!
Enjoy every moment! :-)

My 5 year old daughter tells me I've ruined her life when she's gotten into trouble. Kids -- they are sooo much fun!!

It IS hard, very hard to be two years old.

And it's a hundred times harder to be a mother of a two-year-old, especially when you have to dole out consequences like this one, that are neither fun nor easy but necessary.

Hugs to you both...

P.S. My word verification for this comment is "izjoy," which I take as an absolute sign that Maggie's next playdate will be so much better.

Hitting mommy across the face...oh dear...glad you did the right thing Jenny. Its hard all right, but to be rewarded for that kind of behavior? nah...you did the right thing.

My daughter is going through the "three's", much harder than two in our case. I applaud you for sticking to your guns, its so hard not to give in, especially in public! We usually have a flailing ball of arms, legs & hair on the way out, but in the end she apologizes and learns her lesson!

Hugs to you & Maggie =)
